$1,299 is still a lot of money for a gaming monitor. Even if it’s not really what you would think is a lot for a monitor of this type. The use of a QD-OLED panel for instance. This is new tech. So, you might expect it to cost more than it does. And therein lies what is probably a good value for gamers. In terms of design, the monitor looks a lot like Alienware’s last 34-inch offering. It has a 3440 x 1440 resolution, the same style of base, and just by looking at it you probably couldn’t tell that it’s a completely new product. There are plenty of notable upgrades though.
The Alienware QD-OLED gaming monitor costs $1,299 for some big upgrades
So what are those upgrades? For starters, one of the biggest improvements is the increase in refresh rates. Alienware’s last 34-inch monitor comes with a 120Hz refresh rate. But on the QD-OLED, the refresh rate is bumped up to 175Hz. You’ll need to use a DisplayPort cable if you want those speeds. As using HDMI will result in 100Hz. In addition to the refresh rate, the monitor also now supports NVIDIA G-Sync Ultimate, which adds some improvements for HDR content. Of course the biggest upgrade is the Quantum Dot OLED panel. Which is supposed to provide a wider color gamut compared to standard OLEDs. When it comes to ports, you get one DisplayPort 1.4 and two HDMI 2.0 ports. As well as 3 USB 3.0 5Gbps ports, and 3.5mm and line out jacks for headphones or speakers. All in all, a solid monitor even at this cost. So while it is still pricey, this is well under any other OLED gaming monitors you’ll find. And might just be the best option for gamers that want an OLED panel monitor for PC gaming. If $1,299 is more than you want to spend, Alienware’s last monitor is still one of the best you can get, and it’s quite a few hundred less.
