In case you don’t know, Netflix started releasing some original games to the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store last November. You would have access to these games if you were subscribed to Netflix. These games were all based on popular shows and movies on the platform (there are so many Stranger Things games). Earlier this year, Netflix wanted to double down on the production of these games and bring more in the coming months.
But, almost no one plays these Netflix games
Netflix must have had visions of grandeur with this whole gaming initiative; it planned on having at least 50 games on the market by the end of 2022. Right now, there are 24 on the market. However, according to CNBC, there are about 1.7 million monthly users who actually play the games. That’s a minuscule amount compared to the 221 million monthly users that the company reported. That’s less than 1% of the user base.
Things are pretty bad right now for Netflix
Over the past couple of months, Netflix has seen the largest drop in users in its tenure. It’s lost almost a million subscribers since Q4 of 2021, and there’s no sign that things will get any better. This is in stark contrast to the rise in users that Paramount+ is seeing. Other companies have their own services, Netflix is cracking down on password-sharing, and prices for a Netflix subscription are rising. These are just some of the reasons why Netflix is losing its customers, and that’s just scraping the surface. The company is going to need to think of something to pull itself out of this burning vehicle.
