According to the report, the Galaxy S20 series is picking up this update in “almost” all major US wireless carriers. We don’t have a changelog handy to confirm the contents of the new software package. But don’t be hopeful of any new features and/or functional improvements. The latest update likely only brings the privacy and security fixes that are part and parcel of the November SMR from Google and Samsung. There could be some additional bug fixes and stability improvements from the Korean firm, but that’s about it. As far as the contents of the new SMR are concerned, there are plenty of fixes coming your way. Samsung last week confirmed that the November security update patches more than 50 vulnerabilities. The majority of those were found in Google’s version of Android, but the Korean firm also patched 13 SVE (Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures) items. These are security flaws affecting its custom Android skin. Four of the vulnerabilities patched this month were of critical severity, meaning they could cause serious damages if exploited by attackers.

November security update is now rolling out to the carrier-locked Galaxy S20

All of these security fixes are now reaching the carrier-locked Galaxy S20 units in the US. This rollout follows the unlocked versions of the 2020 Samsung flagships which picked up the update last week. The international versions of the phones received the new SMR in the last week of October. Of course, it could take up to weeks for the rollout to hit all eligible units globally. But if you’re a Galaxy S20 user and haven’t received the November security update yet, you can be on the lookout for it in the coming days. As always, you will receive a notification about the new OTA (over the air) update once it becomes available for your phone. But you can also manually check for updates from the Settings app on your Galaxy S20 unit. Simply navigate to the Software update menu and tap on Download and install. If an OTA update is available, you will be prompted to download it on the next screen. You might want to connect your phone to a stable Wi-Fi network before downloading the update to avoid incurring unwanted cellular data charges.
