According to the company’s official announcement, servers that haven’t turned on community features will have text messaging support in voice channels enabled by default. A dedicated bubble icon will let you send text-based messages anytime. Members of a server don’t need to join the voice call to access text messages in a channel. You can just hop into the channel and send a text message, or see messages sent by other members. Any message sent to a voice channel on Discord will be accessible from the chat icon anytime. But if you’re on a voice call, regardless of whether you have the mic, you don’t necessarily need to keep the text-based chat window open. All new incoming messages will appear as pop-ups to members. You can read the messages from the pop-ups or open the chat window if you want to respond with text. All of these features will be available on Community servers as well. However, the managers of those servers will have to manually opt-in for text-based messages in voice channels. The feature isn’t enabled by default. Discord says text messages within voice channels are free for all servers. Additionally, the benefits of “boosted” servers, such as increased file upload limits, will also work for text messages. Moderators and server owners can control whether a voice channel should have text support.

Discord makes conversations more fluent

Discord is one of the popular VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) and instant messaging social platforms out there. It lets you create channels for your group of friends and communicate with voice calls, video calls, and text messaging, as well as share files. But there has always been a pain with Discord’s voice channels. You couldn’t send text messages here. So if you’re having a voice conversation and wanted to share a link or a funny GIF, you couldn’t do that within the channel. As such, Discord users were forced to create a separate text channel for every voice channel. Of course, this isn’t ideal as it requires you to frequently switch between channels during conversations. Discord is finally changing that.
