According to several users across Twitter, Reddit, and Samsung’s forums, the Galaxy S20 screen shows vertical pink or green lines on the screen. Twitter user @Thesourya2000 (via Android Police) shared an image of the Galaxy S20 Plus below, showcasing the thick vertical pink line.
Although the bug has been around for a while, Samsung hasn’t commented on these concerns yet. But it’s likely the company is already aware of the issue, so we could have a word from the manufacturer later this week. This newly discovered display bug opens up new challenges for the affected customers. Since the Galaxy S20 is around two years old, most units are currently out of warranty. While at least one customer got their Galaxy S20 screen replaced over the display bug last year, the same cannot be expected this time around.

Samsung’s silence also makes it hard to determine whether this is a software or a hardware problem. Some bugs are fixable through a software update. However, complaints about this particular display issue date back several months. This indicates that it’s possibly a hardware-related concern. We’re hoping Samsung will clear the air about this bug sooner rather than later to avoid panic and bad PR. In addition to impacting the Galaxy S20 last year, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and the Galaxy Tab S7 were also affected. In some cases, the green tint was prominent when the device would be on a low brightness setting. Initial complaints were limited to the Exynos 990 variant of the Galaxy S20. But the lines later appeared on the Qualcomm Snapdragon versions of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra as well. Thankfully, Samsung fixed the green tint bug on the Galaxy S20 last year with a software update. So the company could possibly do the same for this problem. We recommend holding off on any unofficial workarounds until Samsung has acknowledged this issue.
