SamMobile notes that the update brings the firmware version G990U1UEU2BUL8 to the device. Expectedly, it introduces a handful of fixes while also patching existing security vulnerabilities. The update is seemingly reaching unlocked versions of the smartphone on carriers such as AT&T, Bluegrass Cellular, Comcast, C-Spire, Tracfone, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Xfinity Mobile. If you’re not seeing the update notification yet, be sure to head over to Settings – Software update to pull it manually. Samsung promises at least three major software updates for the Galaxy S21 FE. This means it should receive Android updates for at least 2-3 years. Meanwhile, the device would get security updates for at least four years.
Samsung’s trio of Galaxy S22 flagships are just weeks away
The Galaxy S21 FE will remain relevant for roughly a month from now as the Galaxy S22 lineup makes its debut in February. Unfortunately for Samsung, January was the only window to release the FE. While the phone would have ideally launched sometime in August last year, the widespread shortage of semiconductors meant the release had to be postponed. While the timing may seem off for the Galaxy S21 FE, it’s still a pretty capable phone. It is equipped with a 6.4-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen with fullHD+ resolution and a refresh rate of 120Hz. While it doesn’t offer the latest and greatest chipset from Qualcomm, it utilizes last year’s Snapdragon 888 (5nm) SoC. The Galaxy S21 FE sports a 12-megapixel primary camera with OIS, a second 12-megapixel ultrawide sensor, and an 8-megapixel telephoto camera on the back. Customers will also find a 32-megapixel (f/2.2) front-facing camera. There are 6GB and 8GB RAM variants to choose from, complemented by 128GB and 256GB of storage, respectively. Samsung uses the term “glasstic” for the materials used in the construction of the Galaxy S21 FE. By this, the company means it uses polycarbonate or plastic while exhibiting glass-like characteristics. The upside here is that the smartphone is pretty light at 177 grams, despite carrying a sizeable 4,500mAh battery. Speaking of which, the smartphone supports 25W fast wired charging and 15W wireless charging. Proprietary Samsung features like reverse wireless charging is also available with the Galaxy S21 FE.
