A report earlier this month revealed that the base Galaxy S22 model will pack a battery unit with a rated capacity of 3,590mAh. A Safety Korea (South Korean certification agency) listing has now confirmed it (via). The agency has certified a battery pack with model number EB-BS901ABY. It has a rated capacity of 3,590mAh and a typical capacity of 3,700mAh. The vanilla Galaxy S22 (model number SM-S901B) will use this battery unit. And it’s a 300mAh downgrade from its predecessor, the Galaxy S21. The latter comes with a rated battery capacity of 3880, while its typical capacity comes in at 4,000mAh. Samsung may be able to compensate for some of the lost battery life with power efficiency improvements the new OLED display and the Exynos 2200 chipset will bring. Moreover, rumors have it that the Galaxy S22 will feature a 6.06-inch display. That’s quite smaller than the Galaxy S21’s 6.2-inch screen. So this should also help with power efficiency. However, the reduction in battery capacity could be too big for the Galaxy S22 to deliver the same battery endurance as the Galaxy S21 unless the company makes some other drastic improvements to reduce power consumption. Perhaps it is banking on a faster, 45W charging ability to make up for the shorter battery life. However, there’s no confirmation of it. Some reports suggest the phone may end up getting the same 25W fast charging. 45W charging speeds may be limited to the Galaxy S22+ and S22 Ultra.
The Galaxy S22 may not disappoint you otherwise
While a smaller battery could be an early setback for people looking to upgrade to the Galaxy S22, the phone should not disappoint otherwise. Samsung is seemingly looking to make a compact flagship that’s full of the latest and greatest the company has to offer. We are looking at the Snapdragon 898/Exynos 2200 SoC with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB/512GB of storage. A 50-megapixel flagship-grade triple camera setup will feature at the back. An in-display fingerprint scanner, stereo speakers, and wireless charging are a few other highlights. You can expect to hear more about the Galaxy S22 series in the coming weeks.
