The Galaxy S22 may ship with a smaller battery than its predecessor
Based on the provided information, the rated capacity of the Galaxy S22’s battery will be 3,590mAh. The Galaxy S21’s rated capacity is 3,880mAh. That means that the Galaxy S22 will likely have a 3,700mAh battery, while the S21 ships with a 4,000mAh unit. This is not a small difference, 300mAh can mean a lot in the general scheme of things, especially if your phone keeps on dying in the afternoon. It is a 7.5-percent difference compared to the Galaxy S21’s battery. This will likely annoy users who are planning to get the Galaxy S22. Truth be said, the Galaxy S22 is coming with a brand new SoC, and possibly in two variants (Exynos and Snapdragon). Will either of them be able to compensate for the lack of battery capacity compared to the Galaxy S21? Or will the S22 perhaps have a smaller display to compensate the difference? Well, we’ll have to wait and see. A recent report did say that the size difference between the Galaxy S22 and S22+ displays will shrink, but that doesn’t say much. It’s not exactly a confirmation that the S22 will have a smaller panel. Seeing such moves by companies is never a good thing, and they rarely result in identical or better battery life compared to the previous device. What’s even worse is that the Galaxy S21+ will also include a smaller battery.
The ‘Plus’ model will also include a battery downgrade
That is something we found out a while back, as it was reported that the Galaxy S22+ will feature a 4,500mAh battery, while the S21+ includes a 4,800mAh battery. Those of you who are planning to get the Galaxy S22 Ultra, don’t fret, it will keep the same battery capacity. The Galaxy S21 Ultra ships with a 5,000mAh battery, and its successor will as well, it seems. It is worth noting that the Galaxy S22 Ultra is reported to offer 45W fast charging, compared to 25W charging on the S21 Ultra. The Galaxy S22 and S22+ will, hopefully, get 45W charging as well. That may end up softening the blow. For those of you who are wondering, the Galaxy S22 series is expected to launch in January.
