The Galaxy Z Fold 3 display becomes first-ever to survive the DropBot

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 arrived with an improved build, including an Armor Aluminum frame, and Gorilla Glass Victus. The Gorilla Glass Victus is included on the outer display, though. The inner, foldable, display has also been improved. The first test the company conducted is the open face-down drop test. It dropped the phone from six feet onto a sidewalk, and the inner display survived two falls. It only got minor frame / corner scuffing, and minor pixel damage. This is the first smartphone display in eight years that did not shatter in this test. The closed face-down drop test was next. The phone was dropped from six feet onto a sidewalk, and the exterior display shattered on the first fall. On top of that, the fall cased raised and loose glass.

The company also conducted a dunk test

The last test the company conducted is actually not a drop test, it’s a dunk test. Allstate Protection Plans submerged the device in five feet of water for 30 minutes. The phone did great, and had no damage afterwards. You can check out the video showing all of these tests, as it’s embedded below. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 managed to surprise Allstate Protection Plans with such results. Not many people expected its inner display to survive this fall, but it did. This only proves that foldable smartphones are evolving, and that Samsung did a great job this time around. It would be interesting to see the Galaxy Z Flip 3 submitted to the same test. Let’s hope the source will make that happen, and film everything. If you’d like to know more about the Galaxy Z Fold 3, check out our full review.
