The newest Samsung foldables are first receiving the November SMR (Security Maintenance Release) in the US. The rollout has begun for the unlocked variants stateside. The update comes with firmware version F721U1UES1AVJ7 for the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and F936U1UES1AVJ1 for the Galaxy Z Fold 4. The former is also receiving the new security patch in Europe. But, as of this writing, it’s limited to a handful of users in Ireland with firmware version F721BXXS1AVJE. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 should widely receive the November SMR over the next few days, including the carrier-locked variants in the US. But, regardless of where you are using the new foldables, don’t be hopeful for any new features or user-facing changes. Samsung is keeping all of those for the Android 13-based One UI 5.0, which will arrive soon. The latest release is all about vulnerability fixes from Google and the Korean brand. Unfortunately, Samsung hasn’t published its updated security bulletin for November. So we can’t precisely tell what issues have been fixed with this release. But, it should be safe to assume that the company patched several dozen vulnerabilities affecting Galaxy phones with this update. As usual, the new SMR will include Android OS patches from Google as well, alongside fixes for some Galaxy-specific issues. Head over to Settings > Software update and tap on Download and install to check for the latest update for your foldable.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 will get the Android 13 update this month

Samsung is in the process of updating its Galaxy smartphones to its Android 13-based One UI 5.0 custom software. The company began the rollout last month with the Galaxy S22 series getting it first. Earlier today, it updated the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S21, and Galaxy Note 20 phones to the new Android version. The likes of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 should be the next in the pipeline. The Korean behemoth has already revealed that the new foldables will get the Android 13 update this month. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 are also scheduled to pick up the update in November, and so are the Galaxy tab S7 and Galaxy Tab S8 series tablets. Stay tuned for the Android 13 rollout information about all these Samsung devices.
