The July SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for the Galaxy Z Fold 2 in the US is rolling out to both carrier-locked and unlocked units. The new firmware versions for the two variants are F916USQS2HVF3 and F916U1UES2HVF6, respectively. The update is already available on all major wireless networks, including T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, Xfinity Mobile, and others. The latest security patch is also widely rolling out to the Galaxy Z Fold 2 in Europe. The updated firmware version for the foldable in the region is F916BXXS2GVF5. The update is live in Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, Portugal, and several other European countries. Additionally, the July SMR is now also available to the Galaxy Z Fold 2 users in some Asian markets, including the UAE, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. It’s now only a matter of time before the foldable gets the update in other Asian markets and Samsung’s homeland South Korea. The second-gen book-like foldable isn’t getting any new features or improvements with this update. The new software package only brings this month’s vulnerability fixes. Samsung recently revealed that the July SMR contains fixes for more than 60 vulnerabilities. These include 23 Android OS flaws, three of which were labeled to be of critical severity by Google. Samsung patched 41 other issues that only affected its Android-powered smartphones and tablets, including a few that compromised the company’s Knox security platform. These issues potentially enabled attackers to gain unauthorized access to a victim’s device. The Korean firm also patched issues with Messages, Contacts, App Lock, Finder, and several other core services.
Samsung rolls out the July security update to the Galaxy Z Fold 2
The Galaxy Z Fold 2 is the latest Samsung smartphone to receive the July security update. The company has already seeded this month’s SMR to dozens of other Galaxy smartphones and tablets. If you’re using this two-year-old foldable, then the latest update may reach you anytime now if it hasn’t already. As usual, the new software package will roll out over the air (OTA) and will be available to all eligible users in batches. You will be notified once your Galaxy Z Fold 2 unit gets the new SMR. You may also manually check for updates from the Settings app on your phone.
