The lawsuit was filed by buyers of the Fitbit Versa Lite and the Versa 2. They claim that all Fitbit wearables are prone to the same issues as the Ionic during an overheating episode. “Reasonable consumers, like Plaintiffs, purchase the Products to burn calories — not their skin — and to safely pursue a healthy lifestyle with the aid of a smartwatch,” the lawsuit states (via Android Authority). The complaint includes pictures of burns caused by other Fitbit wearables such as the Sense, Versa 3, Blaze, Inspire, and Inspire 2. It also contains detailed accounts from customers whose complaints were seemingly ignored by Fitbit, The Verge reports.

While the complainants acknowledge the recall of the Ionic, they contend that Fitbit hasn’t done the same with its other wearables that could contain similar flaws. Crucially, the complaint claims this could cause serious harm to unaware users who continue to use the faulty wearables. On the whole, the complaint points to almost every current Fitbit wearable as being defective. These include the Fitbit Alta HR, Blaze, Versa, Versa Lite, Versa 2, Versa 3, Charge 4, Inspire, Inspire HR, and Inspire 2 Sense. Furthermore, the lawsuit alleges Fitbit of “using methods and techniques that make it difficult for consumers to receive compensation for their defective watches.” To make matters worse, Fitbit reportedly blamed poor consumer hygiene for the state of their wearable. Neither Fitbit nor its parent company Google has commented on the lawsuit as of yet. However, we can expect a statement over the next few days. As a consumer, it’s scary to imagine a health tracker or smartwatch causing skin burns. Hopefully, Fitbit will take these concerns more seriously to avoid any untoward future incidents.
