There was a CPU and GPU performance upgrade of 30% and 40%, respectively, with the Exynos 2100.
The Exynos 2200 could enable a 117% upgrade to AI processes
Qwaider mentions that the Exynos 2200 will introduce a new Nural Processing Unit (NPU) that brings a 117% improvement to artificial intelligence (AI) processes. This could theoretically offer better performance from services like Bixby while also bolstering the camera capabilities. The leak contradicts a report from November suggesting that the Exynos 2200 would offer a 20% improvement in sustained GPU performance over the Exynos 2100. The same report said that the peak graphics performance would see a 31-34% improvement. There’s no confirmation of these revelations yet, so we’re taking this with a grain of salt. There were high hopes when we first learned about AMD’s partnership with Samsung for the Exynos 2200. However, there was some skepticism given that this would be the company’s first foray into the mobile chip industry. A report in October claimed that the integrated AMD GPU on the Exynos 2200 could enable advanced features like ray-tracing and variable rate shading. This expectedly generated quite a lot of excitement, particularly from a gaming standpoint. The Exynos 2200 would compete primarily with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and the MediaTek Dimensity 9000. All three utilize 4nm nodes, so they are likely to take overall performance to the next level. Samsung is yet to unveil the Exynos 2200, while Qualcomm and MediaTek already revealed their chipsets last month. Samsung is gearing up to unveil the Exynos 2200 by January. So we’re not far away from learning more about the new chipset. For context, Samsung launched the Exynos 2100 in January 2021, shortly before the announcement of the Galaxy S21 lineup.
