These trojans are designed to steal your login info, account number, and various other financial info. In the end, its goal is to steal your cash, basically, it’ll do everything it can to get there. Trojans are called that because of the Trojan Horse, in which the Greeks hid to conquer Troy. In a similar fashion, trojans hide inside legitimate-looking apps, to gain your trust, and then they act.
New banking trojans spotted in 5 Android apps, which you need to delete immediately
In any case, these banking trojans were found in apps that have over 120,000 downloads, together. One of them has 100,000 downloads on its own, actually. That app is ‘Recover Audio, Images & Videos’. The other four apps are Codice Fiscale 2022 (10,000 downloads), Zetter Authentication (10,000 downloads), File Manager Small, Lite (1,000 downloads), and My Finances Tracker (1,000 downloads). The first banking trojan is ‘Sharkbot’, while the other is ‘Vultur’. They work a bit differently, but the main goal is the same. The first trojan was spotted in the ‘Codice Fiscale’ app. If opened on a phone using a SIM registered in Italy, would open a fake Play Store page with a bogus listing for ‘Codice Fiscale’. That listing would ask you to update the app. Your browser would probably warn you something is wrong, but considering you’re coming from what you think is a legit app, some people may proceed.
‘Vultur’ trojan works a bit differently, but the end goal is the same
A slightly different baking trojan, called ‘Vultur’, acted in Recover Audio, Images & Videos, Zetter Authentication, and My FInances Tracker apps. Vultur actually keeps track of all your taps and gestures on your phone, and thus can steal info, and ultimately cash. As we usually say, even if an app is removed from the Play Store, and you still have it installed, it doesn’t mean you’re protected, quite the contrary. You need to remove malware apps from your phone as soon as possible. The same goes for all the apps we’ve mentioned.
