Niagara Launcher update brings icon-theming to a whole new level
If you’re one of those people, who loves Niagara Launcher, or is willing to try it out, well, a new update has arrived. Those of you who like to tinker with your setups will love this one. It improves icon-theming, a lot. First and foremost, do note that this update has first rolled out to the beta channel. As per usual, though, the company promised it will launch as a stable release in a few weeks.
The ‘Icon Assistant’ is the keyword here
Niagara Launcher does support icon packs, but with this update, it makes theming a lot easier. The company announced the so-called ‘Icon Assistant’, and it’s supposed to do three things. First is ‘Quick-Edit’. Icon Assistant will present you with suggestions for alternative icons. These suggestions will consist of icons from similar apps or alternative icons from the icon pack you’re currently pulling your icons from.
The second functionality is ‘Auto-Replace’. That one is not yet available, but it is coming soon. Icon Assistant will learn from you. If you find a better replacement than the Icon Assistant, your choice will be considered when recommending icons to other users.
The company says that it wants to make Icon Assistant really smart, so that you don’t have to choose icons manually. The third pillar of the Icon Assistant feature is ‘Auto-Restore’. Icon Assistant will remember your chosen icons whenever you switch to a different icon pack. So that you can return to your previous setup, if you want.
You can now also edit icons individually
Now, the Icon Assistant is not the only change in this update, not at all. You can now edit icons individually. The company has also revamped the icon selection screen. It will not group icons according to categories provided by your icon pack. The company also talked about something called ‘Dynamic Icons’. With this update, all app icons, including individually applied ones, can react to changes. For example, they can change their color if the wallpaper changes, and the icon pack supports it. This is not everything, though. In addition to these new features and changes, a ton of tweaks and fixes got announced on Niagara Launcher’s Medium post.
