In terms of cameras, Nokia X100 packs a 48-megapixel-led quad-camera, enhanced by ZEISS Optics. And the company backed that up with a 5-megapixel UltraWide lens. As well as a 2-megapixel depth and 2-megapixel macro lens. Each of which is enhanced via ZEISS Optics. Around the front of the Midnight Blue handset, there’s a 16-megapixel selfie snapper. The selfie camera, conversely, is a punch-hole design. Embedded in a large 6.67-inch FHD+ display with a 20:9 ratio and a resolution of 1080 x 2400. AI for this phone doesn’t just extend to those lenses either. In fact, HMD Global includes ‘AI assist’ and several other tools to enhance that experience. But the battery may see just as much benefit from machine learning. That’s because, like some other Nokia handsets, the non-removable power supply here can deliver up to two days of use, but with 5G support, according to HMD Global. The company points to the Nokia X100 using AI-assisted Adaptive Battery technology to manage that. Specifically, the feature manages apps and prioritizes power delivery where it’s needed.
What else is Nokia X100 bringing to the table at Metro and T-Mobile?
Now, obviously, offering a big display with OZO Audio-enhanced audio and a great camera were big goals for this Nokia handset. But that’s hardly all it brings with it to the discussion. To begin with, the company is launching this new smartphone with Android 11. And, like other Nokia handsets, it will likely receive more than just one update for both the OS and security. Looking past that aspect of the handset, HMD Global built the Nokia X100 on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 480 5G mobile platform. With a healthy 6GB of RAM. And with 128GB of storage, expandable via MicroSD card up to 1TB. So performance, taken in combination with the Nokia brand’s minimal approach to software, should be top-notch. While 9V/2A — 18W — charging with QuickCharge 3.0 should ensure that the above-mentioned 4,470mAh capacity battery fuels up quickly. That’s via USB-C. For audio output, HMD Global is sticking to its guns, including a 3.5mm audio jack complete with FM radio support. But it also includes Bluetooth 5.1, this time around. With additional features enabled by the cameras such as facial recognition-based unlocking. And, on the hardware side, a power-button-mounted fingerprint scanner. A dedicated physical Google Key and NFC support are just icing on the cake. All of which is packed into what HMD Global describes as a “slim, lightweight, yet durable body.” Although no water or dust-resistance rating has been supplied as of this writing.
Pricing and availability
In terms of pricing and availability, HMD Global has pinned down the Nokia X100 at just $249 to start and, as noted above, the handset will be available at T-Mobile and Metro. With customers able to buy the device as of November 19.
