The November SMR (security maintenance release) is hitting the carrier-locked versions of Samsung’s original clamshell folding phone quite late stateside. The Korean giant began rolling out the update in the last week of October and has seeded it to dozens of its Galaxy smartphones and tablets since then. In fact, the international versions of the Galaxy Z Flip, including the 5G variant, have already received the December security update. Nonetheless, as they say, better late than never. If you’re using a carrier-locked Galaxy Z Flip in the US, you can look out for an update with firmware version F700USQU1ATAQ if you haven’t already received it. Don’t be hopeful of any major new feature though. The November security update brings more than four dozen privacy and security fixes but there aren’t likely any notable user-facing changes. Samsung would be keeping everything for the Android 12-based One UI 4.0. Talking of this, the Korean company is rapidly moving towards releasing the stable One UI 4.0 update to more devices. It has already pushed the big update to the Galaxy S21 series and seems very close to seeding it to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. It is also beta testing the new software for the Galaxy S20, Note 20, Galaxy S10, and Note 10 phones. The Galaxy Z Flip will likely receive the update in the first quarter of next year. As mentioned earlier, the carrier-locked Galaxy Z Flip in the US is quite late to receive the November security update. Samsung has already begun rolling out the December update to its devices. And you can expect it to pick up the pace with this rollout in the coming days. As always, you should receive a notification about the OTA (over the air) update once it becomes available for you. However, you can also manually check for updates from the Settings app on your phone. Simply scroll down to the Software update menu and tap Download and install to check if you have any OTA update pending download.
