However, the company said that there will be “other releases” though it came short of mentioning what that means. One can assume that the manufacturer is referring to the OnePlus 9RT which has made multiple appearances in leaks already. OnePlus gave out this information to the media shortly after announcing the merger of OxygenOS and ColorOS software for its future phones. The ditching of the T variant this year breaks from the company’s tradition which first started in 2016.
Reports suggest that the company will release the OnePlus 9RT on October 15
There are no reasons cited for not launching the OnePlus 9T this year. Perhaps the launch of the OnePlus 9R earlier this year and the upcoming OnePlus 9RT may have something to do with this. The OnePlus 9R sits right below the OnePlus 9 and the 9 Pro in the company’s 2021 product lineup. However, its hardware is comparable to last year’s OnePlus 8T. A recent leak hinted that the OnePlus 9RT could break cover by October 15. This smartphone will reportedly pack a 6.55-inch 120 Hz AMOLED display and 4,500 mAh battery with 65W fast wired charging. The OnePlus 9RT will use the Snapdragon 870 chipset, albeit with a higher clock speed for improved performance. Some say that this may lead to increased instances of the device heating up, but it’s too early to comment on that. Moreover, the OnePlus 9RT will use the same 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 primary rear camera as the OnePlus Nord 2. By comparison, the 9R uses a 48-megapixel sensor. Since Android 12 is likely to be public by October, the OnePlus 9RT should be running this software version at launch. To sweeten the pot even further, the company will also allow bootloader unlocking with the 9RT. Unfortunately, early reports indicate that the OnePlus 9RT could be limited to China and India, much like the OnePlus 9R. It’s currently unclear if the 9RT will replace the 9R or if they’ll co-exist in the marketplace. The entry-level OnePlus 9R carried a price tag of ₹39,999 ($543) in India, so it’s likely that the new OnePlus 9RT will cost around the same.
