OPPO started teasing this handset about a week ago, when it released a teaser video, showing a really compact foldable phone. Well, it turns out that the phone is quite compact, and yet it’s not a clamshell foldable like the Galaxy Z Flip 3. This device opens up like a book, like the Galaxy Z Fold 3, but when it’s folded, it’s much more compact. When unfolded, it becomes a small tablet. It is made out of metal and glass, and it does look quite appealing.
The OPPO Find N is the first foldable smartphone with a curved display
On top of everything, this is also the very first foldable smartphone that comes with a curved display. Just to be clear, its outer display is curved, not its inner (foldable) panel. Speaking of displays, you will find a display camera hole on each of them. The main display has it in the top-left corner, while it is centered on the secondary panel. The bezels on both displays are quite thin, while there are three cameras included on the back. The design of that camera housing resembles the one from the OPPO Find X3 Pro, the company’s flagship handset.
It has 7.1 and 5.49-inch displays
You probably want to know more about the displays, so let’s talk a bit about those. The main panel measures 7.1 inches, and it’s foldable. That panel offers 1920 x 1792 resolution, and we’re looking at an AMOLED LTPO display with an adaptive refresh rate (up to 120Hz). This display includes a 0.03mm layer of Flexion UTG (ultra-thin glass), compared to 0.6mm for regular smartphone glass. The “Serene Display”, as OPPO calls it, was thoroughly tested, it was folded over 200,000 in OPPO’s tests. The secondary display measures 5.49 inches, and offers a resolution of 1972 x 988. Do note that this is also an AMOLED panel, though it offers a refresh rate of 60Hz. It’s also curved, as mentioned earlier in the article. This panel is protected by the Gorilla Glass Victus.
The company utilized the so-called ‘Flexion Hinge’
OPPO didn’t exactly manage to solve the crease problem completely, but it managed to minimize it, it seems. The hinge on the OPPO Find N is called the “Flexion Hinge”, and it’s made out of 136 components. OPPO says that this hinge offers extreme precision, of up to 0.01mm. It widens the angle of the fold in the display, and offers a buffer when the display folds. All this results in a minimal crease, says OPPO. In fact, the company says that this crease is up to 80-percent less noticeable when compared to other foldable devices, and that has been corroborated by TUV. This design will also protect the main display from scratches.
‘FlexForm Mode’ seems interesting
This hinge also enables the phone’s “FlexForm Mode”. The device can freely stand when unfolded at any angle between 50 and 120 degrees. OPPO also included a number of software features to take advantage of this, by the way. You can convert it into a mini laptop, for example. The OPPO Find N comes with three rear-facing cameras. That setup is led by a 50-megapixel main camera (Sony’s IMX766 sensor, All-Pixel Omni-Directional PDAF, f/1.8 aperture, OIS, 6P lens). A 16-megapixel ultrawide camera is also included, as is a 13-megapixel telephoto camera. There are two 32-megapixel front-facing cameras included, one on each display (Sony’s IMX615 sensor). This phone is fueled by the Snapdragon 888 processor, one of the most powerful chips out there. OPPO announced 8GB and 12GB RAM variants, which come with 256GB and 512GB of storage, respectively. We’re looking at LPDDR5 RAM here, and UFS 3.1 flash storage.
33W wired, and 15W wireless charging is supported
A 4,500mAh battery is also a part of the package, and it supports 33W SuperVOOC wired charging. 15W AirVOOC wireless charging is also supported, and compatible with Qi standard. You can utilize reverse wireless charging too, up to 10W. The OPPO Find N has a side-facing fingerprint scanner, and it supports 5G connectivity. Android 11 comes pre-installed on it, with OPPO’s ColorOS 12 skin. The device measures 132.6 x 140.2 x 8mm when unfolded, and 132.6 x 73 x 15.9mm when folded. It weighs 275 grams, and comes in Black, White, and Purple color variants. If you’d like to take a closer look at its specs, click here.
There’s still no word on global availability
The OPPO Find N will become available in China starting from December 23. There’s still no word on global availability. In China, the 8GB and 12GB RAM variants will cost CNY7,699 ($1,209) and CNY8,999 ($1,413).
