Official video tips a blazing fast fingerprint scanner for the Pixel 6a
Someone tracked down an unlisted video that was uploaded to the Google Retail Training France YouTube channel. In that video, the phone gets quickly unboxed, and its fingerprint scanner gets shown. Unfortunately, the video got removed quickly, so we can’t really show it to you now. What we can show you are some screenshots captured in that video, courtesy of 9to5Google. Those images are included in the gallery below the article. What’s also interesting is that the box itself contains the Tensor branding. The power brick is also not included in the box, as expected. What you will get is the USB Type-C cable, and Quick Switch Adapter (USB-A to USB-C dongle). On top of that, the Quick Start Guide is also included, as is the SIM removal tool. Having said that, the fingerprint scanner information is especially nice. Why? Well, one of the worse parts of the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro is the included fingerprint scanner. Many would say it’s definitely the worst one.
The fingerprint scanner on the Pixel 6 & 6 Pro is not exactly great
That fingerprint scanner is not only slow, but it’s not as accurate as it should be. Google tried to improve it, but failed thus far, at least when it comes to stable builds. A recent Android 13 beta build does improve things considerably, allegedly. Well, the Pixel 6a will include a truly fast fingerprint scanner out of the box, if the provided video is to be believed. Google’s exec already confirmed that it’s not coming with the same fingerprint scanner as the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, which are good news. What’s not great is that the Pixel 6a is not yet available to purchase. In fact, it won’t be available until the very end of July. It is coming to 13 countries, but you still can’t buy it. You’ll be able to pre-order it on July 21, and it will be available to purchase on July 28.
