One of the new features, only available on Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, is transcriptions of voice messages inside Google’s Messages app. If you use this for texting on either new device, and someone leaves a voice message, the phones will automatically transcribe the voice message so you can read it. Google is positioning this is as a privacy thing. But we like to think of it like more of a courtesy thing. Or both. As this is the perfect feature to help you keep your messages private from those around you, while also not bothering anyone else.

New call features on Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are AI-enhanced

There’s little that’s more frustrating than calling someone and not being able to hear them on the other end. Google’s plan to cut down on this kind of experience is a new feature called Clear Calling. It’s powered by machine learning algorithms that can filter out the background noise on the other end of the call. Almost like noise cancellation for the person you’re talking to. Allowing you to hear them more clearly. It also enhances the other person’s voice so everything is more audible. Now it won’t matter if someone you’re talking to has a screaming child in the background. Or if there’s a vacuum going full rip far off in the distance. Clear Calling should take care of it. Google says this won’t be rolling out until a few months from now though. So it won’t be available on either phone right away.

Direct My Call now shows you menu options ahead of time

Another calling feature coming to the Pixel 7 series phones is linked in with Google’s Direct My Call feature. Direct My Call is built on Google Duplex and essentially allows Google Assistant to show you on-screen options for businesses with automated menus. While this in particular isn’t new, what is new is that when using the feature on either the Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro, Direct My Call will show you menu options before responses are spoken. This should save users time. In addition to ensuring that every response made is the correct one. Google also states this will be available for most US businesses with toll-free numbers. And it’ll be adding the experience to more businesses over time.
