We’re all still trying to wrap our brains around what the Metaverse actually is. Is it just a collection of games that you play using expensive goggles? Is it the newest frontier in social media? Is it an entirely digital world where you can basically live? No one really knows at this point, but companies continue to pour money and resources into the technology. A big branch of the Metaverse is in the gaming market, and that’s where we’re seeing a lot of development.
Niantic is bringing a new NBA game to the Metaverse
Speaking of partnerships, the popular AR game maker, Niantic just partnered with the NBA to bring a new game to the mix. It’s dubbed NBA All-World, as the name suggests, and it’s meant for markets from all around the world. It should be a no-brainer that the main market this game is targeted at will be the American market. So, there are a lot of questions still in the air about this game. For starters, who’s the gameplay? It’s not likely that you’re going to be going around your neighborhood capturing basketball players. However, you WILL be walking around your neighborhood. On the official website for the game, it says “Explore your neighborhood while competing in mini-games to become King of the Court.” You’ll be traveling around your surroundings using your phone’s camera just as you would with Pokemon Go and Ingress. You’ll be completing basketball-centric mini-games, and these will probably earn you in-game currency. That’s only speculation, but it’s the most likely scenario, as that’s how most games are. You should be able to build your own avatar and customize them with gear that you earn while playing. With that avatar, you’ll be able to compete against popular NBA players in a sense. There’s no word on when this game is going to come out, but you can pre-register for the app on the official website for the game. You’ll be notified when the game is available in your region.
