Reddit comments are now searchable, thanks to a new search-focused update
You have been able to search through users, posts, and communities thus far, searching through comments is only the latest addition. This basically puts Twitter above various other services, as comment searching is still a rarity. Needless to say, this feature may end up being immensely useful for many of you. Depending on the post, there can be thousands and thousands of comments. If you’re looking for a specific response to something, perhaps, this option should help. Reddit also introduced new user experiences and interfaces. The company says that, based on user feedback, it now decided to prioritize posts over other content types. It also simplified the results page, so that you can easily skim through the results.
The search relevance has also been improved, says the company. Reddit detailed what it will focus on to achieve this. It will allow for less restrictive matching. “100% of a query doesn’t have to match the text of a post to return relevant results,” says the company.
The company also aims to improve search results in general
Reddit will also use user patterns to improve search results. So, for example, if someone is searching for a topic a lot of other people are searching for, Reddit will automatically sort their results to prioritize the newest content. The third way Reddit plans to achieve this is by incorporating signals for post results. “This enhancement looks at users’ clicks and interactions on search results as a ‘signal’ of what might be valuable for them,” said the company. It’s always nice to see improvements, and this is certainly it. The biggest one of all is the ability to search through comments, of course. I, personally, have found myself frustrated while scrolling through thousands of comments looking for a response to something. I’m sure the same has happened to you, at least once. This new feature should help with that, immensely.
