As of this writing, the Android 12-based One UI 4.0 update for the Galaxy A71 is rolling out to users in Hong Kong. But it should now only be a matter of time before the rollout crosses boundaries to other territories. The new firmware version for the phone in Hong Kong is A715FZHU8CVB6. This update comes with the February 2022 Android security patch. It isn’t the latest available but not too old either. More importantly, the Galaxy A71 is receiving tons of new features and improvements with the latest software package. One UI 4.0 contains all the goodies that are part and parcel of Android 12. From display indicators for camera and microphone access to a dedicated Privacy Dashboard, the latest iteration of Google’s mobile platform gives a lot of emphasis on user privacy and security. A quick toggle lets you cut off microphone and camera access for all apps at once. Additionally, Samsung has made minor UI changes to its custom Android skin, which it calls One UI. The latest version also brings improvements to Dark Mode, always-on display (AoD), and other existing features and stock apps. And while Google is limiting Android 12’s Material You dynamic theming to its Pixel smartphone series, Samsung has baked its own similar feature in One UI 4.0. It lets you extract colors from your wallpaper and apply them to system UI elements for a consistent look. There’s a lot more coming to Samsung’s Android-powered Galaxy smartphones and tablets with this update. You can refer to our full coverage of One UI 4.0 features for more. Note that some of those features may not reach some budget and mid-range models. But the Galaxy A71 should get most of them.
Android 12 reaches the Samsung Galaxy A71
Samsung began its Android 12 rollout in mid-November last year. By mid-January 2022, the company had already seeded the new Android version to most of its eligible flagship models globally. Over the past couple of months, it has released the big update to several mid-range models as well. The Galaxy A71 is the latest to jump on the bandwagon. You can expect more eligible Galaxy smartphones to receive the Android 12 update in the coming weeks and months. We will keep you posted.
