Samsung’s dual-folding smartphone-tablet hybrid could be on the way
Just to be clear, Samsung Display trademarked it, as this is display related, of course. Why, though? Well, let us explain. Samsung showed off its foldable concept devices at CES 2022, the Flex G and Flex S. You can check out SamMobile’s hands-on video below this paragraph to see both devices. These concepts have been made by Samsung Display to demonstrate the double-folding display, first and foremost. Now, considering that both names have now been trademarked, that could mean we’re one step closer to actually getting a double-folding device. It does not guarantee it, though, of course. It seems like it’s only a matter of time before we get dual-folding devices. The Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip series devices are doing great, so this is not surprising. Having a smartphone that can unfold into a tablet probably sounds appealing to some of you. The company may even be ready to announce something like that, but it was waiting to see how successful the other two foldable lineups will be, who knows. This is, after all, an entirely new type of foldable.
It’s difficult to predict when will Samsung announce such a device
So, when may we see a dual-folding smartphone-tablet hybrid from Samsung? Well, your guess is as good as ours. That is not something we can predict, it depends on so many factors. If we had to guess, though, we’d say that such a device won’t arrive before 2023, at the earliest. Who knows, though, Samsung may end up waiting even longer, we’ll see. One thing is for sure, once a dual-folding smartphone-tablet arrives, it will be quite powerful, in terms of specs. It will be interesting to see how thick will it be, as that is probably one of the major obstacles for the company. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is extremely thick, much thicker than some of the competition, as Samsung decided to stick with a hinge that ensures water resistance. So, imagine yet another part of the display folding on top of that. Samsung will have to sort that out somehow, and ensure that this dual-folding device is as thin as possible, even if that means sacrificing water resistance.
