The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 to offer better energy efficiency

This information comes from Ice Universe, a well-known tipster. He shared the information via Twitter. He claims that this will be a flagship SoC with the best energy efficiency in the last 6 years of Android. That sure sounds promising. That does mean that we should get better battery life, or that companies can decrease battery sizes a bit, therefore offering us lighter devices. The differences won’t be monumental, but they’re worth noting. Now, this is not the only change that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will offer, of course. We’re expecting performance improvements as well, and hopefully better thermals too. Heating up has been one of the main problems with Qualcomm’s flagship SoCs. It hasn’t been exactly a problem to the point that it affects smartphone performance, but a lot of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 phones do get quite warm. Custom cooling systems do help, but not every OEM does that.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is expected to improve the thermals as well

Those are immensely powerful processors, while space inside smartphones is limited, so heat is expected. It’s always good to see that chip OEMs work on raising the bar though. Let’s hope the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will produce less heat in general. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is expected to arrive towards the end of the year. That’s when Qualcomm usually launches its next-gen flagship processors. First smartphones with that chip will start arriving in Q1 2023. The entire Galaxy S23 series, in every market, is expected to utilize the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Well, that is if the latest report is to be believed. Even Europe will get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, after the Exynos 2200 ended up disappointing while being used inside the Galaxy S22.
