The Series X|S will be backwards compatible, and there will be visual upgrades
If you’re a collector or just don’t want to get rid of your games, you should be happy to know your system will be able to play both the digital versions of the games and the original disks. Microsoft announced this during a celebration for Xbox’s 20th anniversary. You won’t only be able to play the games on your system, but they will actually look better. For starters, they will get a 4x resolution increase on the Series X and Xbox One X, which should really help get rid of jagged edges. As for the Xbox Series S, games will get a 3X resolution bump, and there will be a 2X resolution bump on the Xbox One S and Xbox One. Along with the changes in resolution, the Xbox Series X|S will also apply Auto HDR to the games that support this technology. This is a technology that the new Xbox systems use to add HDR to thousands of older games. Basically, it uses machine learning to reimagine the dynamic range of the original game. With these new additions, your old games should look a lot better on the new systems. Along with these changes, some of the titles will be compatible with fps boost technology. What this will do is unlock the framerate and knock it from 30fps to 60fps.
So, what games are being added to the list?
If you own these games, then you might want to go and dust them off. For starters, there’s TimeSplitters, the entire Max Payne series, Gladius, the entire Gears of War series, Binary Domain, Nier, Red Dead Revolver, the entire F.E.A.R franchise, Dragon Age, Fallout New Vegas, and plenty more. If you’re a big fan of the older titles, then the list is growing. There are currently over 500 past titles that you can play on the Xbox Series X/S systems, which is great. For years, it’s been a struggle to play older titles on new hardware, and that always frustrated players.
