Things for a lot of people in the world are slowly getting back to normal as the Coronavirus pandemic continues to fluctuate. Tons of businesses are still forced to communicate via video calls. Thus, services like Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Google Meet have been working to be more accessible for people who need to keep in contact.
Now, you can join Google Meet calls from Docs, Sheets, and Slides
Though the pandemic is a definite inspiration for this feature, we can’t disregard plain and simple convenience. You’re able to start a Google Meet call from the dedicated client, and there are a few ways that you can join a call. However, Google just added some more interesting ways for you to join a call. Google recently gave you the ability to present a document in Google Meet. This means that you can take a Doc, Sheet, or Slide and display it prominently in the call. Now, according to a Google blog post, you can actually join a Meet call right from those documents. While you’re viewing a document, you’ll see a new button up top. This button will be the Google Meet logo. When you click on it, you’ll see a dropdown menu appear with some options regarding a Meet call. Uptop, you’ll see the calls that your team has scheduled. Next to the title of the meeting, you’ll see the time it’s scheduled. If the meeting is currently active, it’ll just say “Now” in a bubble. Simply click on the meeting to join it and present that document. Under those options, you have some other options. First, if the meeting you want to join isn’t scheduled, you can join a meeting using a Meet code. Also, if you don’t want to simply join a meeting but start one, you can start one with the bottom option. When you do, you’ll be able to present that document.
The rollout
Google has this slated for rapid rollout and gradual rollout. The rapid rollout starts today and will go on for the next 15 days. The gradual rollout will start on May 1st and run until May 15th or 16th. All Workspace customers and Legacy Gsuite users will be able to use this feature. Keep an eye out for this feature to drop.
